Featured Kanakapila Artists
Brittni Paiva at Grand Central Stage. Brittni is a multi award winning ukulele instrumentalist from Hilo, Hawaii. She began her journey with piano lessons at the age of four. In the subsequent years, Brittni has picked up the drums, bass, guitar as well as countless other instruments. When Brittni was 11, she picked up the ukulele, and that became her passion. Now at 26 years of age, Brittni has produced a total of 5 CD’s, and is now working on her 6th CD which is slated to be released in 2015. One of Brittni’s goals when it comes to creating music with the ukulele is to apply it to non traditional genres, and to play music that will enlighten people and make them smile. From pop, alternative, to now EDM (Electronic Dance Music), Brittni transforms the ukulele and endeavors to make it front and center. Brittni has also pioneered the looping technique when applied to the ukulele, as you can see in some of her YouTube videos.
DJ Opulence at BLOOM (Akebono Theatre). Rooted in the art of audio shamanism, the sound of Opulence is expansive and transcendental, with an underlying current of unmistakable bliss and beauty. Inspired by the multidimensional complexity of life, Opulence’s performances span across a multitude of feelings, emotions, and states of being. From silky smooth cosmic downtempo, to full-on tribalistic outbreaks of digital ecstasy, you can expect a grand voyage into the great beyond where the dark and the light, the digital and organic, the DJ and dancer become One. Opulence is Andy Freist, the lead director of Inspiral Audio and DreamDance Hawaii, two Hawaii-based event production companies that strive to spread the medicine of modern psychedelic music to the local community and the world at large through transformational events. Love Eternal at Island Naturals. Eight years ago, Shawna and Jahred Namaste’ began writing songs together, inspired by the Love of Divine and their three beautiful children. The two met Ray of Sunshine in downtown Santa Cruz and had their first show as Love Eternal in April 2003, with a lineup of musicians who all found themselves, soon after, living together on a piece of land in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Five years, 100+ shows, four albums, and two buses later, the core of Love Eternal still live together in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where they just completed their 4th album, entitled: “Healing,” which is already receiving national and international radio play.
